Ibn Al-Qayyim: Whoever is inspired (by Allāh) to supplicate (to Allāh), then a response has already been intended for him, for Allāh has said:
ادعوني أستجب لكم
Call on me, I will answer you [40:60]
“There is no point in making duʿāʾ” |
There are some people who wrongfully say there is no point in making duʿāʾ. They claim you will get whatever is written for you and what is not written for you, you will never get—even if you make duʿāʾ for it. Our response is that their claim is essentially void, as it suggests that the Prophets were ignorant to have made duʿāʾ. It also suggests that Allāh's command to us to make duʿāʾ is pointless. Allāh says in the Qurʾān, ﴾Call me, I will respond to you﴿—Allāh will never command us to do something that holds no benefit. Secondly, YES things are pre-written for you BUT they might be written for you BECAUSE of a reason that YOU undertook. For example, Allāh might have written for you a righteous progeny BECAUSE of your duʿāʾ. Once you stop making duʿāʾ thinking that there is no point to it, you eliminate the reason, and when you eliminate the reason, you do not receive the result, which in this example is a righteous progeny, as Allāh writing it for you was directly linked to your duʿāʾ. You do not know, perhaps you receiving something good or something bad being warded off is a direct result of your duʿāʾ. So keep asking the One who never tires of Giving. [From tafsīr of sūrat Āl-ʿImrān by Sheikh ibn ʿUthaymīn.]
Outside of your Salah and outside of your Sujood, make Du’aa. In your late nights, make Du’aa. And in your daytime, make Du’aa. During Wudhu, make Du’aa. And outside of Wudhu, make Du’aa. Do your Du’aa raising your hands. Do your Du’aa without raising your hands. You can do Du’aa in all your settings.
Du’aa patches that deteriorating heart. It softens the heart, purifies the heart and the soul, and it gives you never-ending hope. Pure souls can never do without Du’aa. It could be and it happens that if Allah subhaanahu wa ta’aala loves you, He closes all the avenues in this life in your face, so you can open that communication that you have been neglecting with Him, because He loves to hear from you. Hopes and goals that you thought were impossible could easily become a reality with Du’aa. Those who call Yaa Rabb, Yaa Rabb, never get disappointed. We are the ones who need Him subhaanahu fee ‘ulaah, yet He is the One who asks us to ask Him.
وَقَالَ رَبُّڪُمُ ٱدۡعُونِىٓ أَسۡتَجِبۡ لَكُمۡۚ
And your Lord said: "Call upon Me, I will answer you." (Surat Ghaafir: 60)
Look at this verse. If Allah wants mercy over you, He inspires you to make Du’aa. Thank Him for that blessing. That in itself is a blessing.
