[Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, We believe, and not be tried?]
Allah informs us of his complete and perfect wisdom, that anyone who claims he has Imaan saying “I am a believer” will ever be left in a state without trials and adversities, such they are not exposed to anything which might make their imaan falter, because if it were like that- the truthful one would never be distinguished from the liar , and the ones carrying the truth would not be apparent from the falsehood.
Rather the sunnah and the path of this Ummah and the ones before it, is that they were tested through both ease and adversity, in times of hardship and ease, in things they loved and in those they hated, through both richness and poverty, through having thier enemy overcome them at times, and striving over their enemies through speech and deed, and other similar types of trials that all root back to the trial of doubts put forth with regards to Aqeedah, or desires put forth to sway the intention.
So whoever , in the face of trials - which are the leading cause of sins and wrongdoings and diversion from the command of Allah and His Messenger- acts according to his Imaan, and strives against his desires, then that is a proof of the trueness of his faith and it’s uprightness.

"Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried?" أَحَسِبَ النَّاسُ أَن يُتْرَكُوا أَن يَقُولُوا آمَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ (29:2)
Notes: Trials either take a person away from Allah or they bring him very close to Him until He becomes one of His righteous slaves, I don't think there is a third option. Trials are azaab for some and a blessing for those who put their trust in Allah. Trials are not only a test but they also leave you with an amazing life lesson that you could not have learned any other way. Trials show the absolute wisdom of Allaah as to how He rectifies, teaches, and guides His servants in a way that no one could ever possibly have done. They show how much Allah loves His servant that He gives him a chance to rectify, learn and be guided. And lastly, if Allah gives trials then surely He takes it away as well. May Allah make us pass all His tests and bring us closer to Him. Ameen.

Prayer prohibits a person from evil before committing it and makes him feel remorseful after committing it, but it does not prevent him from committing it, because Allah said “prohibits” and did not say “prevents”:
الصلاة تنهى صاحبها قبل المنكر وتؤنّبه بعده، لكنها لا تعصمه، لأن الله قال (تنهى) ولم يقل (تعصم) (إن الصلاة تنهى عن الفحشاء والمنكر) Shaikh Abdul Aziz Al-Tarefe

Millions of creatures with no pockets, no stock, and no balances are currently sleeping without worrying about their livelihood for tomorrow. Strive, and have complete reliance on Allah (SWT) for Allah says: ٱللَّهُ يَرۡزُقُهَا وَإِيَّاكُمۡ “...God sustains them and you” (Qur’an 29:60)

Some of the Salaf said:
'I battled with my nafs for twenty years before it became upright.' “If you strive for long enough, and repent each time you err, then your nafs will become upright. But this is something that doesn't happen over days or months; it requires long years.“
But We shall be sure to guide to Our ways those who strive hard for Our cause. Allah is with those who do good.
[29:69]
Surah Al-Ankaboot ends with a promise:
"And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good." (29:69) You are not responsible for results or outcomes. The process is our domain. Like a professional athlete who practices and tweaks his movements until it has become muscle memory, we focus our energy on conforming every detail of our lives to the guidance we have been given. As we slowly, steadily move closer to Allah's hope for us, Allah determines what results will come in this world and has promised us salvation in the next.
[And (as for) those who strive hard for Us, We will most certainly guide them in Our ways; and Allah is most surely with the doers of good.]
[And as for those who strive for our sake] they are those who migrate in the path of Allah, and strive against their enemies, and exert all their efforts in seeking the pleasure of Allah.
[We will certainly guide him to Our paths] the paths that lead to Allah, and that is because they are Muhsinoon - those who do Ihsaan/ good deeds with excellence and perfection.
[And indeed Allah is surely with the Muhsineen]. He is with them with His Aid and Help, His victory and guidance. This indicates that the most correct people are those who strive for the sake of Allah , and that whoever strives for perfection and does good in that which Allah commanded, Allah will aid him and make easy for him the ways to guidance.
And this ayah also indicates that the one who is serious and struggles in seeking Islamic knowledge, he will obtain Guidance and divine help from Allah to achieve his goal - extra help that surpasses his own efforts, and Allah will make easy for him the matter of knowledge.
And indeed, seeking Islamic knowledge is from the types of striving and Jihaad in the path of Allah, rather it is one of the two main types of Jihaad - the one which no one is given the success to establish except the most special of creation - and that is the Jihaad by speech and tongue, against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and the Jihaad that is undertaken when teaching matters of the deen, and when refuting the doubts of those who oppose the truth - even though they may be from the Muslims.

May Allah make us of those who strive for His sake, so he guides us to His paths. Ameen.
